HIGHWAY ENGINEERING AND DEVELOPMENT di ITB

Graduate Program

Continuous advancement and development in Highway Engineering require support from highly skilled and professional engineers. In response to the needs, the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering offers a graduate program in Highway Engineering and Development, which is designed for those who intend to strengthen their knowledge and skill in Highway and Traffic Engineering. All academic activities are presented in an integrated form of class work, courses, seminars, research, thesis preparation, as well as field study and laboratory works. The students will be exposed to advanced knowledge and state-of-the art technology of highway engineering.

Program for Master’s Degree

The Master’s Degree requires 36 credits of graduate courses, including 5 credits of master’s thesis and 1 credit of seminar. One may take 10 to 12 credits per semester, which is equivalent to 40 to 48 hours of academic activity. Academic activity can be in the form of class lectures, homework assignments, laboratory of studio works, literature studies, research and seminars, etc. The program shall be finished within 3 to 4 semesters. All courses are conducted in Bahasa Indonesia. However, students are expected to have a sound knowledge of English.

Presently, the Highway Engineering and Development Program offers two specialized fields of subjects: Highway and Traffic Engineering . The ongoing research concentrates of the development and application of the two specialized fields. The research covers widely range of topics, the primary research topics include but not limited to: Pavement Modeling, Pavement Materials, Pavement Management and System Development, Basic Traffic, Traffic Management and Operation, Traffic and Environment, Traffic Modeling, and Traffic Safety. Research topics are incorporated whenever appropriate into the program.

Core Courses.

Geotechnique for Highways, Geometric Design of Highways, Traffic Engineering, Transport Planning and Modeling, Analytical Methods, Road Pavement Engineering, Properties of Road Making Materials, Road Construction and Maintenance, Traffic Operation And Control, Transport and Development, Transport Engineering Economics, Group Field Project, Research
and Thesis.

Elective Courses

Terrain Evaluation, Project Management, Network Control and Management, Urban Transportation, Maintenance and Management of Bridges, Advanced Traffic Engineering, Advanced Highway Engineering

Facilities Laboratories

Our laboratories are facilitated with analytical equipment and instruments such as pavement materials and pavement structures test equipment. Field survey facilities include bump integrator (roughness), British pendulum tester, rutting test, marshall test, asphalt and aggregate properties test equipments, surface texture analysis and surface distress measurement devices, and necessary accessories.

Extended list of laboratories are:

Computation and Information System Unit

Geodesy

Highway and Traffic Engineering

Soil Mechanics

Structural Engineering

Workshop

Computer

The day-to-day academic activities are supported by computing facilities. Our computer laboratory provides sufficient units of personal computers connected with LAN and internet and also equipped by multimedia facilities. Up-to-date engineering software including numerical computation, modeling, statistics, CAD, project optimization image processing and geographic information system are available. Its LAN is connected through fiber optic backbone to global internet. Hotspots (Wi-fi) are available within the campus area.

Libraries

The educational and research needs of the program are served by ITB Central Library, which has more than 150,000 collection books and 1000 journal subscriptions. Facilities are available for making computerized bibliographic searches using several databases. E-journal subscriptions include EBSCO, Proudest, SIAM, ACS and Science Direct. O’Neil library information system utilizing Gnash Digital Library (GDL) and Atomize-X engines enhances services to library members. A small collection (about 10,000 volumes) of reference works and heavily used books and journals is maintained in the faculty libraries being managed by each degree program. The GDL provides interconnection between libraries within all degree programs.
